CHATEGUAY RIVER FLYFISHING
WITH RICH GARFIELD
If you remember any of last years shows you’ll
remember that flyfishing is a passion of mine. We start off a
series of three flyfishing shows at the little known (at least
to tourists) Chateguay river in the northern part of the park.
Rich Garfield from www.flyfishtheadirondacks.com joins us again
to show us a sampling of this lesser known stream. Our “tip
of the week” segment is on stream insect identification”

SALMON RIVER FLYFISHING WITH NICK
COPOLLA
View
Episode Segment
We continue our journey
of fishing lesser known waters by visiting the Salmon River, no
not the one near Pulaski but the “other” Salmon River
near Malone. We are guided by Nick Copolla of Jones Outfitter’s
in Lake Placid. Nick has a special love for this river and it
comes out in his knowledge of its many varied stretches of water.
We actually caught more fish than we could put on film. Our tip
this week is on flytying our “go to” fly for that
day.

BROOK TROUT FISHING NEAR
CRANBERRY LAKE WITH RICK KOVACS
This fishing trip took 3 separate visits to film
as we tried to go early spring brook trout fishing in a remote
pond north of Cranberry Lake. Good thing we were joined by our
friends from Packbasket Adventures as on our first and second
try we were hit with everything from icy rain to freezing rain
and then the last try after a short stretch of hot weather that
sent the brookies down deep. Our guide Rick Kovacs of Packbasket
Adventures had to pull out every trick in his repertoire to get
us some brookies. But the final meal of fresh brook trout at the
end was worth it! Our tip this week is on a very helpful fish
finding device for fishing ponds.

WOLVES.. OH MY!

Episode Segment
With our fishing segments over for the year we decide
to take a look at all the BMW’s in the Park. No not the
famous car company but bears, moose and wolves. It is a fascinating
show as we are joined by Ken Kogut Regional Wildlife Manager and
Ed Reed Wildlife Biologist of the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation. With the ever increasing number of
moose collisions, bear confrontations and the possibility of wolf
sightings this show has it all. Our tip is on the type and use
of bear canisters.

INTERNATIONAL PAPERS JOHN
DILLON PARK
If I had to describe one show we have done that will
hopefully touch the lives of many viewers it is this one as we
travel to just north of Long Lake to visit a very special place.
Until recently a real wilderness experience was inaccessible to
people with disabilities but not any more. International Paper,
Paul Smiths College, the Town of Long Lake and the State of New
York work together to realize the dream of former International
Paper Chairman John T. Dillon’s vision for an Adirondack
wilderness accessible to everyone with the opening of International
Papers John Dillon Park. It is the first wilderness area in the
country that is designed specifically for people with disabilities
and their caregivers and it is an absolutely incredible place.

THE NATURAL HISTORY
MUSEUM AND THE WILD CENTER IN TUPPER LAKE
The newest “museum” in the park is
not quite what you might think of what a museum would be like.
The Natural History Museum and The Wild Center in Tupper lake
is a mix of hands on education for youngsters and a biology lesson
for the adults. It has the perfect mix of water features and learning
experiences capped off by the 2 stars of the Center in Squeekers
and Squirt, the always playfull otters. Our naturalist tour guide
Brad Donahue takes us up close and personal with all of the exhibits.
